Frequently Asked Questions
Q Is The SBH Young Professionals Program right for me?
Our primary target audience is college-age students, however, high school seniors and college graduates are welcome to apply. If you feel that you can use a mentor then this program is right for you!
Q Who are the Young Professional Mentors?
GEM Mentors are community members who have found a successful career path in various fields. They understand what it is like to balance their community responsibilities while pursuing their career goals, and can offer valuable advice on how they did so.
Q When do meetings take place?
This is entirely up to mentors and mentees; after one initial in-person meeting, all communication will be based on schedule and convenience.
Q What if my mentor/mentee isn’t right for me?
GEM is always here to help. If your mentor relationship is not going well, just email us at
SBHGEM@gmail.com and we will make necessary changes to accommodate you.
Q My field of interest isn't listed.
Not a problem. Just type your field(s) of interest in the application form and we’ll do our best to find a suitable mentor.
Q How much time do I need to commit to this program?
Mentees: Commitment is flexible and depends on how much you want to engage.
Mentors: We ask that you keep in touch on a mutually agreed schedule. An initial in-person meeting is recommended, followed by bi-weekly communication via email or phone.
Q Who can I contact with other questions?
Please note that SBH GEM is not a job placement program, but a way for community members to receive career guidance. For job or internship assistance, please visit the CSN Page and create an account. An intake specialist will follow up with you.
