Position Overview

A family in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a caring, responsible, and dependable Paraprofessional to provide one-on-one support for their son, who will be entering 1st grade for the upcoming school year.

The student currently requires support Monday through Thursday from 11:00 AM–1:00 PM. The family is working to secure additional hours and hopes to expand the position to 9:00 AM–1:00 PM in the near future.

This is an excellent opportunity for a college student or someone seeking consistent morning/early afternoon hours who enjoys working with children and can provide patient, attentive support in a school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support to a 1st-grade student during the school day.
  • Assist the student with remaining focused, engaged, and successful in the classroom.
  • Support the student in following classroom routines, instructions, and transitions.
  • Provide encouragement and individualized assistance with classroom activities.
  • Help reinforce appropriate classroom behavior and positive social interactions.
  • Assist the student with organization and completion of age-appropriate tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher and other school staff.
  • Help the student develop greater confidence and independence.
  • Provide calm, patient, and consistent support throughout the assigned hours.
  • Communicate appropriately with the family and relevant school staff regarding the student's day and progress.
  • Maintain professionalism, discretion, and appropriate boundaries at all times.
Qualifications
  • Warm, patient, responsible, and dependable.
  • Comfortable working one-on-one with an elementary school-aged child.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow guidance from teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Attentive and able to provide consistent support in a classroom setting.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to maintaining the agreed-upon schedule.
  • Previous experience working with children is preferred but not necessarily required.
  • Experience as a paraprofessional, teacher's assistant, counselor, tutor, or similar role is a plus.
  • College students and candidates seeking a consistent morning position are encouraged to apply.
