Human Resources Manager

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Schedule: Monday–Friday, On-Site
Salary: $95,000–$110,000

Position Overview

A Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization serving the local community is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to provide strategic and hands-on HR support across multiple programs. This position will oversee key aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, benefits administration, and HR operations.

Working closely with senior leadership, program directors, supervisors, and employees, the Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted HR partner, helping foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace while ensuring effective and compliant HR practices throughout the organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure employee compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution.
  • Advise management on employee relations matters and recommend appropriate corrective or disciplinary action.
  • Conduct internal investigations as needed.
  • Facilitate voluntary and involuntary employee separation processes.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Support employee engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and funder regulations.
  • Coordinate performance reviews and coach managers on feedback, goal setting, and employee development.
  • Oversee personnel records, including I-9s, background checks, and HRIS data.
  • Maintain and improve HR processes and documentation.
  • Utilize HRIS systems for recordkeeping, reporting, and process efficiency.
  • Generate HR reports and analytics for leadership as needed.
  • Support employee training and wellness initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership on organizational development and workforce planning.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience.
  • Prior experience in a nonprofit, social services, or community-based organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Experience with policy development, employee conduct, discipline, and workplace safety.
  • Familiarity with full-cycle recruitment, job descriptions, candidate evaluation, and onboarding.
  • Knowledge of performance management, coaching, and employee development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong employee relations, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with employees and leadership at all levels.
  • Ability to interpret and apply HR policies and legal requirements fairly and consistently.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and supportive workplace.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
