Position Overview
A nonprofit medical referral organization is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Information & Data Structuring Specialist to support the development and maintenance of foundational medical information systems and internal databases. This role combines medical research, data organization, terminology standardization, and quality assurance to transform complex medical information into structured, accurate, and searchable resources.
The ideal candidate possesses strong medical literacy, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to organize large volumes of unstructured information into consistent, high-quality datasets. This position works closely with leadership on strategic projects that support medical information management and organizational initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Research, organize, classify, and structure complex medical information for internal databases and projects.
- Read, interpret, and evaluate medical literature and other healthcare information sources.
- Standardize medical terminology and maintain consistency across internal datasets.
- Perform metadata tagging, classification, and organization of medical information to improve searchability and usability.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Transform unstructured or inconsistent information into clean, organized, and standardized data.
- Utilize spreadsheets and structured databases to organize, analyze, and maintain medical information.
- Conduct internet-based medical research while identifying reliable, evidence-based sources.
- Leverage AI tools responsibly to improve research efficiency and workflow while verifying all information through trusted sources and human review.
- Collaborate with leadership on long-term medical information and database development initiatives.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance data quality, organization, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Strong medical literacy with the ability to read and interpret medical literature and clinical information.
- Familiarity with medical specialties, clinical terminology, diseases, procedures, and healthcare concepts.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills, including sorting, filtering, formatting, and organizing structured datasets.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and consistency.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience organizing complex or unstructured information into standardized formats.
- Excellent internet research skills with the ability to evaluate the credibility of medical and scientific sources.
- Experience using AI tools responsibly to support research, organization, and workflow efficiency while maintaining human oversight.
- Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in health information management, clinical research, medical librarianship, taxonomy development, healthcare data operations, or healthcare information management.
- Strong understanding of medical specialties, subspecialties, diseases, procedures, treatments, and clinical terminology relationships.
- Experience with CRM platforms, Salesforce, structured databases, or healthcare information systems.
- Familiarity with metadata tagging, controlled vocabularies, taxonomy development, or structured knowledge management systems.
- Clinical experience or advanced education in healthcare, public health, biology, neuroscience, pre-medical studies, physician assistant studies, nursing, or related health sciences.
- Experience supporting medical research, healthcare operations, or nonprofit healthcare organizations.
